Violent Radicalization-Homegrown Terrorism Prevention Act headed for Senate Vote
Fears that government could define "Internet radicalization" and criticism as terrorism mount, violent comments left on messageboards by trolls could be exploited to entrap peaceful 9/11 truthers. A new bill that recently passed the House and is headed for Senate approval has online activists worried that the vague definitions used for defining the Internet's contribution to radicalization of potential terrorists could lead to a government crackdown on talk radio, free speech and the 9/11 truth movement. INTERPOL In Colombia 3 + 3 = 8
I have just finished reading INTERPOL's report on the computers that the government of Colombia says it found in an encampment of the FARC-EP on March 1. Reading the report I am once again fascinated with what experts can do with computers. But I am shocked that the world's best known detective agency cannot add three plus three. Gov't message: Bush ok to have boyfriend, but it's not ok for Clinton to have girlfriend
The Bush White House gay sex scandal heats up, as new revelations show that fake reporter and male prostitute Jeff Gannon "slept over" on numerous occasions at 1600 Pennsylvania Avenue. Gannon had previously advertised his services on the internet as a male prostitute "top" at $1200 per weekend. Since "Jeff Gannon" has given the term "media whore" a whole new definition, the question arises -- could "Jeff Gannon" be President George Bush's Lewinsky albeit in gay apparel? Miami Dispatch J20: March on the Mayors Conference - The Skys Open Up
Yesterday the Right to the City Alliance took to the streets of Miami. With umbrellas splashed with our messages and skeleton puppets looming over coffins carried by the crowd we danced through the tropical streets to the riling sounds of To Be Continued?, a NOLA second-line. The March on the Mayors, escorted by a phalanx of police, marched from Overtown through Downtown Miami to just outside the InterContinental hotel where over 200 of the nation’s mayors were meeting at the U.S. conference of mayors. Oct. 27 "End the War Now" Protests Throughout the United States (City reports)
The October 27 demonstrations represented another important step forward for the anti-war movement in the United States. Over 100,000 people took to the streets in coordinated regional and local protests to demand an immediate end to the war in Iraq. The October 27 demonstrations took place just six weeks after the September 15 National March and Die-In in Washington, D.C. that was led by Iraq War Veterans and family members of soldiers and marines. DNC 08 Denver: Get ready for the largest gathering of anarchists in American history
The group that may be the most prepared for the 2008 Democratic National Convention is also the least likely to be prepared. It doesn't represent labor unions or mainstream progressives, but anarchists. A loose coalition of anti-authoritarian factions from across the nation have formed an outfit called Unconventional Action, with the express goal of disrupting and shutting down the DNC and RNC. Activists say that anarchists in this country have never planned such a large-scale action so far in advance of a specific event, and certainly not with such openness and strategy. Yesterday, nearly 100,000 people -- led by anti-war Iraq veterans, military families and others -- marched from the White House to the Capitol in Washington, D.C. to demand an immediate end to the occupation of Iraq. The march concluded with a dramatic "die-in" of 5,000 people surrounding the Capitol. Almost 200 people were arrested when police prevented them taking an anti-war message to Congress. Puke Ray: Coming Soon to a City Near You
Government-funded researchers are building a flashlight that makes people puke on command. The LED Incapacitator uses a range-finder to measure the distance to a target's eyes, Threat Level notes. Then it unleashes continually changing, multi-color light pulses that make the target feel bad -- really bad. The "effects, whose effectiveness depends on the person, range from disorientation to vertigo to nausea," according to Technology Review. (image/jpeg + 2 comments)
