STAND-UM News Conference Feb. 1st - "NLRB Indictment against UNICCO" Students Towards a New Democracy (S.T.A.N.D.) along with janitors at UM held a NEWS CONFERENCE & SPEAK OUT on February 1st, to address a formal complaint filed by Local 11, Service Employees International Union (SEIU) with the National labor Relations Board (NLRB) that UNICCO supervisors spied on, threatened, interrogated, and pressured janitors fighting for bettor wages, affordable health insurance and a safe place to work. Currently, janitors at UM make as little as $6.50 an hour and are not provided with health insurance. In addition to the NLRB investigation, OSHA is conducting an investigation of UNICCO for failing to provide janitors at the campus with appropriate safety equipment and training.
